FAQ
Here are a few questions that people often ask Alan - If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop me an email
Q - "Why should we hire you rather than someone else"
A - Difficult to answer really. If you haven't seen me perform before there is little I can do to convince you. If you have seen me you wouldn't be asking the question. I'm very good though...
Q - "Do you perform at children's birthday parties?"
A - Simply - No! Children have completely different needs when it comes to entertainment. You can always tell when a close up magician also performs at kids parties, they just a have a way about them that can be slightly patronising - Please see Children's Parties for some excellent magicians though.
Q - "My son is 12 and extremely bright. Him and his friends are too old for a 'Kiddie Magician' and they would love it. Can you come along?"
A - Again no. When kids are amongst their friends they simply see it as a challenge to see how the tricks are done and can't watch it as purely a piece of entertainment - quite different to when they are sat with a table of adults as they take the grown ups lead with how to react.
Q - "But what if there are a few children at our party/wedding?"
A - If there are just a couple of kids who are sat with their parents, I do have a few tricks they will enjoy. Some are simply too clever for them, but others the plot is so simple, well, even a child could follow them.
Q - "When is the best time to add a touch of magic to our wedding?"
A - The best time is during the photo period, early on to set the mood that it's a going to be a fun day and instantly gives guests something novel to talk about. Wedding Breakfast is also good. Although it is definitely best to keep the magic to just one period of the wedding - this way it will have the biggest impact. Please see Wedding Magician page for a full run down.
Q - "How much does it cost?"
A - The big question! The answer is - it depends! Price is based on lots of different factors (Date, Length of Performance, Location etc) - email Alan from Contact page for a quote.
Q - "Is there anywhere you don't perform?"
A - Hen parties and Stag parties are the ones I can think of at the moment that I don't do. Will add more when they occur to me.
Q - "I've asked around and I have had cheaper quotes. How come you are a little bit more expensive?"
A - It's really like anything else. You get what you pay for. If you want a cheap magician with a playing card waistcoat and a flashing bow tie then I am not the magician for you anyway. I have a friend that will come along for £50 and free drinks if you want - but by his own admission - he is completely rubbish! Another point is that if you hire someone cheaply - this will often indicate their professionalism towards the job ie they might not make every effort to make sure they get there and make it a success if they aren't been paid well for it (see next question...)
Q - "What if you are ill or something happens and you can't make it"?
A - This is a worry for many people. I often get calls from people ringing at the last moment and saying "our magician has just let us down..." etc. I've been performing professionally now since 1992 - and in that time have only ever not been able to attend a handful of bookings. In the event of me not been able to make it, I will ensure that someone of an EQUAL STANDARD (or sometimes better!) will be at your event for THE SAME FEE.
Q - "Can you make my wife disappear?"
A - No, but I've heard about this bloke in Hull that will do it for £500. For £200 you can have her knee caps broken.
Q - "Can you predict the lottery numbers like that Darren Brown?"
A - It's Derren! And yes I can - but if I won loads of money what reason would I have to do card tricks?
