Alan Hudson and Kat Hudson are joining magical forces in a brand new double act, Hudson and Hudson. They’re taking their brand new show, Married At First Sleight to the Edinburgh Festival this August.
What happens when 2 magicians get married? Is life full of magic surprises or do they still have petty arguments over who’s taking the bins out? Can you ever relax when your partner is constantly playing tricks on you in the middle of a boxset?
Alan Hudson and Kat Hudson join forces for the first time. And if they argue too much, the last time. They’ve been together for 11 years and married for 6 years, but this is the first time they’ve decided to try teaming up on stage. This is a premiere that could lead to worldwide domination, fame and fortune. Or divorce.
Alan Hudson (winner on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, The Next Great Magician) is teaming up with his wife Kat Hudson (Penn & Teller: Fool Us and West End’s Wonderville) in a comedy magic double act that could be the best thing they’ve ever done or the worst idea ever.
They’ve both appeared on TV shows around the world, including Tu Si Que Vales in Italy, Britain’s Got Talent etc, but until now they’ve never performed together.
Alan has been performing solo for his whole career, so how will he find it working with his wife? As Alan tries to make it the best show ever, Kat has other ideas and thinks she knows best. Kat also seems to think that onstage is the best place to air their personal relationship niggles in public.
Hudson and Hudson – in their own words
Alan says “The first rule we had when writing the show was to not include any material that we’ve previously performed, so it had to be all new tricks. Trying to find magic that is suitable for a comedy magic double act is challenging. Especially when you’ve never done it before. Also, we both had to be fully committed to each trick. If one didn’t like it, it was out. Being in a double act does have it’s benefits with the way you can do the tricks so it’s exciting to find new methods that haven’t been possible before”
Kat says “The rehearsal period has been interesting to say the least. I didn’t realise how easily distracted Alan can get. 10 minutes in, Alan’s mind will start to wander and start thinking about something else. I think it’s starting to make sense now why he never listens to me – nothing to do with me boring him at all!
Alan says ”People have often asked to perform a comedy magic double act but the timing hasn’t been right up until now. Now we’ve started performing as Hudson and Hudson, obviously we wish we’d done it years ago, but we also know it would’d have worked then. It’s like they say, the secret of good comedy is timing”
Hudson and Hudson at Gilded Balloon

So what can you expect from Hudson and Hudson? Great magic (obviously), a magical gameshow, they summon up a ghost live on stage, the best card trick in the world and lots of LOLs. Also probably some built up tension on stage, especially if Alan has been leaving his underpants on the floor recently.
The Gilded Balloon was the first choice of venue for this show. It’s a fantastic venue in Edinburgh and perfect for Hudson and Hudson’s debut. Alan also performed here back in 2014 so is delighted to be back. Kat has never performed at The Edinburgh Festival before so very excited to be making her debut performance.
Married At First Sleight, will be on at Gilded Balloon’s Patter Hoose from 2nd – 27th August every day (except 14th) at 3.40pm.
