Podcasts have exploded in the last 10-15 years. With the help of Ricky Gervais and a few other famous people, they have become part of the norm. Strange that before then they didn’t really exist and now I wouldn’t want to live without them.
Around 10 years, me and my friend did a small podcast (about magic) which lasted for 6 episodes and has now been deleted from the giant podcast bin (credit to Adam Buxton: Podcaster).
Magicians are quite a secretive bunch. Normally meeting at places like The Magic Circle or more recently, in hidden Facebook groups. There aren’t really many magic podcasts to speak of. However, the leader of the bunch is The Magicians’ Podcast hosted by Richard Young.
Over the years, Richard has interviewed the biggest stars of magic. Some you will have heard of, some not. But all have done something interesting in their chosen field of magic: whether it be close up magic, stage or creating the magic for other magicians or west end musicals.
If you listen to all of them, you could certainly find out a couple of secrets. But to be honest, you’d have to have a keen interest in magic in the first place to listen. There’s lots of jargon and in talk so might be a bit confusing if you have stumbled in by mistake.
Hudson joins The Magicians Podcast
In the latest season of The Magicians Podcast, I do the intro with Young called “Hudson, What’s Going On” where we chat about current events in magic or in out lives. It makes the podcast feel a bit more episodic and gives it a consistency. After that, comes the main event of Young interviewing a different special guest each week.
So far, to date guests have included, David Copperfield, The Ehrlich Brothers, Derren Brown, Dynamo, Paul Zerdin, Troy, Dominic Wood, Andy Nyman, Hans Klok, Debbie Mcgee, Paul Daniels and plenty of others.
If you have half an interest in magic, you have around 100 episodes to catch up on. It can be found on Itunes, Spotify – all the usual places you get your podcasts from. Or here https://magicianspodcast.podbean.com/
